REC + CS Bouldering Etiquette

During Peaks Trip, came to attention that there was a lack of understanding from less experienced climbers on how to act whilst at the crag.

In order to raise awareness, idea of having a dedicated person at the crag to inform and teach people correct climbing etiquette.

Green Guide Books published by the BMC on waking and climbing worth a read.

We will now have a dedicated bouldering leader on trips involving bouldering

RC: Winter Gear

Could do with more pairs of crampons, have 9 sets currently. As current budget doesn’t allow to buy more, will apply for the next round of Alumni Funding. Will hire crampons for 2020 ISB trip.

RC to apply for next round of Alumni Funding

CS: Club development plan #2

After meeting with Matt Price, have decided 4 areas to work on. CS to fill in table of plans and have another meeting with Tom Sawko and Matt Price to discuss:

Potential future committee members

·       Objective to encourage current members to run for committee positions. Looked at possibility of shadowing current committee members as well as encouraging members to take the lead. Sunday emails include opportunity for freshers to put themselves forward, some moderate interest so far.

BUCS Points

·       Objective to get a BUCS point. Orienteering and women’s bouldering the most likely to achieve this. Look into focussed bouldering sessions for bouldering and attending climbing winter series events as an organised team.

Sponsorship

·       Worth looking at local companies to approach. CS is compiling a list of possible companies on the Google Drive and will create a generic email to send out. All committee to send out email to a few companies each.

Charity

·       Fundraising for this will be done through RAG. Air Ambulance is the chosen charity. Opportunity for a newer member of the club to lead event. Possible ideas: climbing the height of Everest at Redpoint, ascending height of Everest on Widcombe

CS to fill in Development Plan table, meet with Matt Price to discuss progress in S2

SE to organise focussed bouldering sessions for BUCS Team

CS to compile list of possible sponsorship companies and send out to committee to forward on.

All members to think of ideas on charity fundraising ideas

CS- Club membership update- how to manage numbers

Currently at 201 members! However only approx. 40/50 “core” members who regularly attend activities. Ideas of having local outdoor climbing and to add route maps of Sunday walks onto the website so members can go independently. Also an idea to vary Wednesday climbing centre as members can find TCA intimidating. However, members may have bought membership to TCA and so want to climb there. Can start poll in Facebook to see where people are climbing to give members chance to see who is going where and link up.

Wear Uni of Bath t shirts so can be easily recognised.

CS to create climbing Facebook poll each Wednesday to go with Weekly climbing thread

RC + JP to add walking routes to the SU website

Add map of climbing walls to club website – CS to delegate

Keep an eye out for future committee members and get them involved.

Email formatting

Sunday emails are often long as there is a lot to cover. Should break up text with pictures to make easier to read.

FL to format Sunday emails
