The Committee 2017-2018

Chair
Eoghan Wiles

Hello fellow mountaineers. My name is Eoghan (pronounced Owen), I'm going to be your BUMC Chair for the next year. I come from a keen mountaineering family and spend a lot of my free time walking and more recently climbing. Outside of mountaineering I am a third year pharmacy student. My other hobbies include running and cycling. Joining BUMC was the best decision I have made since coming to university. I have had some awesome opportunities in the club from learning to climb to experiencing winter mountaineering in Scotland. Over the next year I will aim to try and continue to provide opportunities for both those new to mountaineering and those more experienced. If you have any questions about the club please feel free to contact me. You can get hold of me via Facebook, email or I'll be in the pub most weeks.

Treasurer
Harley Beattie

Hi, my name's Harley, I'm Irish, and I'm a second year Mechanical Engineering student. This year I will be taking on the role of treasurer for the mountaineering club. Last year I joined mountaineering having previously been part of a climbing club in Ireland. It was an absolute blast and I've made some great friends- who apparently trust me with money! I'm looking forward to all the crazy adventures that are planned for the coming year and hope to see you there!

Club Secretary
Freya McLaren

Hi I'm Freya, and I'm a second year Politics student and I'll be your secretary this year. I joined the club in freshers week as an inexperienced climber and have loved every aspect of the club. As secretary, my job is everything organisational and making sure everything runs as smoothly as possible. If you have any questions don't hesitate to get in touch!

Climbing Secretary
George Bridgewater

Hi All, I'm George a 4th year Mech Eng student doing double duty as one of the two climbing secretaries for this year. I've been in this position the year before last so hopefully we'll have a bumper year of climbing activities! The BUMC is an extremely welcoming club so please do come along; the more the merrier :) On the climbing front we run everything from beginner friendly bouldering events, through outdoor climbing right up to a week in the Scottish winter so whatever your level there'll be plenty to interest you. To get involved, come along to one of our introductory bouldering events on the first two Wednesdays of term or the pub trip in the first week! If you've got any questions about anything to do with climbing at Bath, please done hesitate to ask! Feel free to grab me at the wall, down the pub or on emails.

Climbing Secretary
Elinor Scruby

Hey guys, I'm one of the BUMC climbing secretaries for 2017/2018. I've been climbing since I was about 7 so as I'm sure you can guess I'm pretty obsessed! Whether you've got a lot of experience or you've never been on a climbing wall in your life it doesn't matter. Everyone's welcome and I'll be doing my best to make sure you're all enjoying climbing as much as me by the end of the year!

Walking Secretary
Robert Cook

Hi - I'm Rob, and I'll be working with Nick to arrange walking this year. I'm a second year Mechanical Engineering student, who has been keen on the outdoors for a long time, and will be trying to get to the hills as much as possible. I'm hoping to get more people engaged in walking, from around Bath on Sunday walks, to scrambling in Snowdonia. I'm also planning on teaching more navigation skills to get as many people as possible tooled up to head into the hills.

Walking Secretary
Nicholas Winn

As a keen walker, climber, scrambler and everything in between, I'm super excited to be a walking sec on committee this year, my third as part of the club. I study civil engineering and, having just come back from placement year, I can't wait to see familiar faces and new ones - catch me on Sunday walks, weekend trips and at the walls in Bristol. Drop me a message with any questions.

Gear Secretary
Victoria Bennett

Hi I'm Vicky. I look after the equipment store. I'm the only committee member to have a climbing route named after their cat (The Fatty Fatty Mooch, first ascent by Eli Scruby). Can't wait to show you all round my cupboard

Social Secretary
Conor Smith

Hey, I'm Conor, a second year MechEng student and your Social Sec for the year. This involves organising our weekly pub trips and a huge range of socials throughout the year, from food nights to cheesy moles, there's definitely something for you! Everyone in the club is so friendly so make sure you come along and meet us all, you honestly won't regret it! If you have any social ideas or questions, please feel free to get in touch and you can always find me at the pub or climbing wall. Hope to see you all soon!

Web Secretary
Luke Miller

Hey, I'm Luke, a second year CompSci student. I'll be the web secretary for this year, which involves taking care of the Internet aspect of the club, such as keeping the website and pages up to date. I joined the club last year as a complete beginner and have since learned a lot and really enjoyed my mountaineering experience with the help of the friendly club members. If you have any question, whether web related or not, feel free to drop me a message!

BUCS Captain
Jonathan Mitchinson

I'm Jonathan, a second year IMEE student from the lake district (the best national park in the UK). I love all types of climbing and the occasional walk, although I'm most commonly found lurking in the depths of TCA. In addition to our bouldering team, I'm aiming to establish our first lead climbing team and try to get the club more involved in local competitions. If you've got any questions then give me a shout.

Postgraduate Secretary
Toby Parkes

It has come to my attention, that I am on the committee next year as your first Postgraduate secretary!!! But don’t be fooled, this doesn’t mean I’m becoming mature or developing a hint of responsibility and I plan on being a nutter with you rowdy bunch of bumbling explorers for the next year! As postgrad sec, it is my role to look after all the old, bolding and slightly senile members of the club who haven't quite made it to little gitdom yet. So, if you have any questions on how to get involved with the club drop me a message and I'll get you walking, climbing, bouldering and generally enjoying the company of us bunch of loonies! P.S. If you’re an undergrad and like me you think the rest of the committee look like a sour bunch of grapes you can drop me a line too (postgrads aren’t all that scary, honest!)

Voting Member
Emily Estcourt

Hi I'm Emily, a second year Politics student and I'm acting as voting member for this year. Having joined the mountaineering club with very little experience last year, I have really enjoyed the welcoming and fun aspects of the club and hope to help new members get involved and enjoy it as much as I have. I hope to provide a friendly face and point of contact for any questions you may have.
