SU Activities Officer Update : Tout va bien !

Hello friends!

Hope everyone has been enjoying the sun and your well-deserved summer break !
As I'm writing this I'm currently watching the rain unfold in Bath but please can someone remind the weather that it is technically supposed to be sunny in July?!

Thought I'd give you all a quick update on what I've been up to in the last couple weeks! Past few weeks have been a little quieter than the first 3 weeks which feels nice as I'm able to focus on the year ahead and start planning!

I sat for the first time on the Alumni Panel which was really exciting looking at some of the amazing proposals. The Alumni Fund benefits the wider student body and anyone that is part of the SU can submit a proposal if they've got an idea of a project that could benefit the wider student body!

Societies & Volunteering

  • I've been working with the Freshers Week Events Managers to see how we can involve societies even more during Freshers Week! On a side note, if you have an idea of something you want to do or if you want to get involved in Freshers Week more, email me!
  • I met up with Bristol SU to talk about how we can inspire societies to achieve more whilst having a ton of fun.  We're looking at revamping the previously used tier system which was complicated and generally just needed some changes!
  • Societies Gym Day : I've been working with Elizabeth and SU Staff and Team Bath staff to give you lovely people a societies gym day. This is still in the works but it would give societies free gym access for a day with classes that you could also attend free of charge!
  • I met with some of the Activities Exec to discuss plans for Freshers Week and see how we can best support volunteering activities.

Skills Development

  • I've been working with SU Staff on one of my manifesto points which was to develop a volunteer recognition scheme. I want to make sure your hard work is being recognised and that you're able to use it for employability! Still lots of work to be done but things are moving forward!
  • I'm working on including cultural & awareness training as part of the inclusivity training that committees receive! I decided not to create a separate cultural & awareness training as I didn't want to add more work for you but to potentially embed it within the existing Inclusivity Training! Lots more work to be done on this but it's exciting!

Sustainability

  • We held our first EVER SU Sustainability Steering Group! This is a going to be a really good way for us to have a broader oversight using a sustainability lens of what the SU can do better. We discussed what areas of the SU we should focus on as well as our general targets for the year!
  • I've also been working with the FWEMs on embedding sustainability in Freshers Week, more to come soon!

Other exciting news, my 'Meet your Officer' video is out on the SU Facebook page if ya fancy seeing a quick introduction to my role!

That is it for now! As always if you guys have any question, concern or anything, please message me on my SU Facebook Account or via email at suactivities@bath.ac.uk ! :D
