We’ve just bombarded you with SU Officer Elections, but it’s not over yet! It’s time to elect our Undergraduate Faculty Reps for 2018/19!
Whether you’re a first year or going into your final year, you should nominate yourself to be a UG Faculty Rep next year. Faculty Reps can influence huge changes and decisions in their faculties, and influence policy across the university. They are a crucial link between the SU and the university.
As an UG Faculty Rep, your role is to represent the views of your peers and feed that back at Faculty/School Learning and Teaching Quality Committee (F/SLTQC) and Board of Studies to make sure the SU and the university are working towards the changes you and your peers need to see to improve your academic experience here at Bath. You also work very closely with the SU Education Officer, sitting on the Academic Exec and leading on key academic campaigns.
Here’s a few reasons why you should nominate yourself:
Make Change
Faculty Reps are a vital resource to the SU and the university. Without you, we wouldn’t know what changes to work towards to make your time at Bath better. You will work closely with the Academic Reps within your faculty/school and with the SU Education Officer to lobby the University on key academic issues.
Develop Yourself
Being a Faculty Rep gives you a great opportunity to develop your skills, especially with all the support and training you get from the SU! You’ll get the chance to develop your negotiation, communication, networking, leadership, and organisational skills. You will develop the confidence to challenge the status quo and ask staff for the changes your peers want to see within your faculty. You can learn so much from the meetings you attend with staff, and will gain a better insight into how things work in your faculty, the SU, and the university as a whole.
Employability
Developing all of these skills is a win for your CV! These transferable skills are amazing to demonstrate competencies in job applications and interviews, and will help give you a well-rounded CV with more than just a degree. You can even use the time spent as a Faculty Rep as part of the Bath Award. Help yourself stand out from the crowd!
Conference … and a Free Hoodie!
As part of the support the SU offers to all Reps, you’d get the chance to attend our Academic Rep Conference in Semester 1. You get training and workshops to help you develop your skills, and get to hear some key note speeches from interesting people. This year we had the NUS Vice-President for Higher Education, Amatey Doku! Plus, all of our Faculty Reps get a free Academic Exec hoodie!
Put yourself out there and try something new! Nominate yourself to become an UG Faculty Rep. You’ll make amazing new friends, network with staff and students from across the university, develop your skillset and become more employable, and make amazing changes to the academic experience at Bath.
