Education Officer Blog

The end of a semester

END OF SEMESTER 1

As the first semester has come to an end and we are moving towards revision season I just wanted to write a little blog for you all.

It has been an absolute delight to have been your education officer and I've really enjoyed working with so many of you over the semester! I want to give  a huge shout out to all the Academic Reps and Faculty reps for being so great! All of you are so dedicated in your roles and I could not have asked for a better team of students to work with.

This semester has been tough for some of us, with strikes and the usual university stress. But I want to congratulate you all for making it this far into the year!
And I also want to give a huge congratulations to all of the people who graduated last week. It is so inspiring to see people in their robes celebrating their achievements and the years of hard work they put into getting their bachelors, masters and PhD qualifications.

This semester has been a true reminder for me about what the value of education is, and this was reflected by watching students stand in solidarity with their striking lecturers and take control of their education.

Some exciting things that have happened this semester included Black History Month, the Academic Reps conference, meeting so many of you inspring students, meeting some of our long distance learners on the addictions councelling course, GRADUATION CEREMONIES and working closely with the incredible officer team.  I am looking forward to 2020 and creating some more change with you guys!

Have a great Christmas and happy new year!!

More importantly, please remember to take care of yourselves over the revision period. Here are a few tips;

  • Remember to take regular breaks
  • Stay healthy, get enough sleep and eat well!
  • Exercise or do some yoga and meditation!
  • Please ask for help if you need it!
  • Try and create a regular routine for yourself to follow over this period
  • Make sure you give yourself some time off to spend with family and friends over this festive period too!
  • For advice regarding IMCs you should still be able to contact SU Advice and Support!

I really wish you the best of luck and hope to see you guys when you're back and ready to kill it in second semester!
