Jacob Withington Academic Integrity Charter
I have been in conversations with the university about adopting the Academic Integrity Charter which would ensure a collaborative, community approach to ensuring integrity. This would involve preventative measures on improving education on what counts as collusion and plagiarism, how to avoid it and designing assessments to make it harder to plagiarise or collude. This would also involve improved detection of plagiarism and essay mills as well as ways to block access to essay mills so they can't prey on students.
The University are receptive to adopting this and improving current procedures such as the integrity training module so watch this space for any decisions!
Exam Parameters 2021/22
From feedback gathered from you (thank you!) we have been negotiating the exam parameters with the university to best serve student wellbeing, international students and those with caring responsibilities, as well as collusion concerns. We have reached a compromise on what options your exams could take which will hopefully be shared with you in September once approved. Then the approach adopted for your course year should be communicated once decided in October/NovemBer.
Top 10 Research:
We are in the process of putting together our Top 10 issues to work with the university to resolve for this coming academic year. These should be announced mid-end of september as we are currently researching topics from our long-list. Some areas I am looking into are: sustainability and accessibility of new and old buildings; attainment gaps; wider adoption of SEOs.

NUS Lead & Change
Last week your Officer team were attending a virtual NUS Lead & Change conference. Here we got more training on how to represent and improve the student experience. We also networked with our counterparts across the country to hear what happens at their uni, what problems they are encountering and what ideas we can bring from our experiences.
