As semester 2 begins, I'm filled with hope for what 2021 holds! We may be limited in terms of what we can get involved with, but there's time to be looking ahead with some excitement! Here's what we can look forward to :
Clubs are back!
Our amazing clubs are back with virtual sessions! Remember, there are loads of ways you can get involved in physical activity, despite the circumstances!
Membership extensions
If you bought a £20 membership last semester, this has been extended into semester 2. If you didn't have a membership, and wanted to buy a semester 2 one, its only £10!
Someone else writing these blogs...
I'm coming to the end of my second year, and officer elections are around the corner. It's an opportunity for someone with fresh eyes to come in at a really important time, and shape the direction of sport within the SU! Find out more here and if you're interested, send me an email!
500 opportunities to shape your communities!
Committee elections season is almost upon us! The return to sport is going to be huge next year, and we need passionate people to put themselves forward for committee roles. It's an amazing opportunity to shape your sports club, and tie in with your passions, skillsets or development needs! Keep your eyes peeled throughout March!!
Settling into our new spaces
Me and Franci are currently working on a project to ensure we use our newly inherited spaces as effectively as possible in the new normal. As a reminder- we now have the Edge and a great off-campus space in Oldfield park (Dartmouth Avenue) as well as the good old SU building in the centre of campus. Keep your eyes peeled for information!
Some in person sport(?)
Let's stay optimistic here! BUCS League may have been cancelled, but tournaments may still occur, and we're really excited to develop our intramural offer as soon as possible!
A new direction
With participation of underrepresented groups decreasing across physical activity over the pandemic, there is a huge need to focus on reducing the barriers to sport across the university, encouraging people to get moving in environments that are less intimidating and more inclusive.
It's been a tough few months, but we have, and will continue to get through this together! Think about trying something new over semester 2! Make use of the all-sport membership, bike rentals, exercise buddy scheme and stay well! I can't wait for us to get back to normality soon!
