Buses, Buses, Buses

Semester has started and for the first time in a year and a half campus will be the fullest it has been (I can't wait).

I know many of you will be using the bus service to get to and from campus and the city, our best advice is to leave with extra time at the moment. There have been some big changes to the types of buses being used and routes and I want you to be able to directly feedback to First.

What we are doing?
Over summer I have been meeting with First to discuss the service provision for the coming year and what changes there are to the services as local travel returns in this post-COVID world. We've discussed the need to make sure there are enough spaces on buses, and the need for a more frequent double decker service following the removal of the bendy buses due to the Clean Air Zone in Bath, the price of the tickets and the ease of the First Bus App, the timings of the buses, making sure that you can get to campus in time for sports sessions and the need to have a platform to allow you to directly contact First.

Your Officer Team will be out and about at some of the bus stops in the mornings this week, we will be encouraging you to directly contact First with any issues you may have. Make sure you say hello!!

Looking ahead - next week I am meeting with the Operations Manager Bath & Wells and will be raising any general concern that have been noted, as well as how the new routes are working. We are also applying pressure on First to update the GPS on the buses so they accurately track the routes.

Latest update

  • Cleveland Bridge closed.
    • Due to the ongoing closure to Cleveland Bridge a lot of traffic is going through the city centre creating additional congestion as they try to get to London Road. This work is due to be finished in November.
  • Petrol shortage!
    • Due to the panic buying that has been happening, First have been in touch to say that there is increased traffic as a result of cars are blocking the road trying to get to petrol stations meaning there are delays to the service.
