Manifesto
I’m Ben, your current Education Officer. Over the past year I’ve worked hard to secure the wins that matter to you.
Some of these include:
- Ensuring the University’s increased fees next year don’t affect current students.
- A new mobile-compatible Student App where you can see free rooms, free computers and so much more!
- A complete shake-up of Personal Tutoring ensuring tutors actually contact you and help your development.
- Obtaining an enhanced, automatic Panopto system which will increase the number of lectures being recorded from 21% to 50%!
I believe my determination, enthusiasm and experience means I would hit the ground running as President, tackling the issues that matter most to you.
Priorities for next year:
Space
- Level 1 in the Library is full of journals that few people use. I’ll make sure they’re put online, freeing up an entire floor for study space.
- The introduction of learning commons has been popular; I’ll push for even more, on and off campus so you have space to get your work done.
Rewards and Recognition
- Our volunteers should get the recognition they deserve. I’ll ensure the Volunteer Recognition Scheme provides worthy rewards.
- I’ll develop a loyalty scheme and reward cards for using SU services, giving you even more discounts.
Accountability and Communication
- I’ll work with the web team to create a new SU App, keeping you up to date with all the deals, communications and events that are happening - including regular updates from the Officer Team so you know what we’re up to.
Revision made easier!
- In the summer, puppies and a petting zoo will be coming to help you with stress, but I’ll make stress-free campus even bigger and introduce a huge ball pit and a bouncy castle to let off some steam.
Too many exams, not enough feedback
- I’ll continue working to obtain a new system for feedback so you can voice your concerns and have them acted upon now rather than later!
- Students are assessed far too much. I’ll ensure steps are taken to reduce assessment and make sure the way you are assessed is appropriate.
Media
- Media at Bath needs immediate development. I’ll secure the investment they badly need.
The Wheels on the Bus…
- I’ll push for an increased service to areas outside of Oldfield Park such as extended U2 provision until midnight.
Housing
- With the University forcing more students to live further outside of Bath, I’ll push for subsidised travel for those having to commute in.
Money, Money, Money
- There are too many forms for student groups dealing with finances. I’ll ensure we get an online SU Finance system that allows student groups to efficiently manage their accounts online and reduce the number of hoops they have to jump through.
- With fees set to increase, it’s time we knew where our fees are going and if we are getting value for our money. I’ll push for transparency in spending from the University and the SU.
