Event: ACE Society Lecture: CAUKIN Studio

Thursday 11 March 2021 at 6:15pm - 7:30pm

We will be joined on Thursday 11th March by Joshua Peasley and Harry Thorpe, co-founders of CAUKIN Studio, to share about their journey in the social enterprise to create impact through architecture.

The journey in CAUKIN studio began with Joshua and Harry working together in 2015 whilst studying for their Bachelor’s degree in architecture. They set up CAUKIN Studio as a social enterprise with their projects acting as a vehicle to educate and upskill local communities and international participants in design and construction.

As a group of enthusiastic 2nd year students, they wanted to gain a different type of experience, putting their education to good use. Despite their limited experience, they say that they were fortunate enough to come across a small charity called Friends of Koh Rong (FoKR) who had set up a school on a small island in Cambodia.

They worked closely with FoKR and the community to design and build their first project, Playscape; a play and learning space that provides a safe haven for the local children. Over the 6 week construction period, they realised the immense value of working with local communities and the knowledge exchange that takes place both on and off site.
