Fresher's Week Captains

Freshers' Week Team

Freshers week managers and captains are a group of students that are here to ensure you have the best Freshers’ possible. You’ll see them around campus wearing green t-shirts.

They'll be there to look out for you during the daytime and evening events, from helping you move in to scoping out the best spots on campus to grab a bite to eat. They’ll be there to support you and show what the SU and the university has to offer!

Look out for posts on socials as they will have the best tips on how to make the most out of Freshers’ week.

Why did you apply to be a FWEM?

I wanted to contribute towards creating fun and exciting events that reflect the diversity of the student body! Being an international student, Freshers’ Week truly sets the tone for our university experience. Keeping this in mind, I aim to make our events as inclusive and welcoming as possible, ensuring that every student feels comfortable and excited to participate!

Favourite SU Memory?

Definitely the street food market! I remember being really surprised that this was something The SU organised throughout the year. It is always exciting on campus and many people get to try different foods.

Drink of Choice?

Orange Jasmine Tea from Papaw in town!

Go to Uni Meal?

Japanese katsu curry! It's definitely my comfort meal and super easy to put together!

Top Tip for Incoming Freshers?

Dive into Freshers’ Week with an open mind and a sense of adventure! Attend as many events as you can, try out new activities, and don’t be shy about introducing yourself to fellow students. I truly urge postgraduate students to also take advantage of this week to connect with peers, explore campus resources, and immerse themselves in the vibrant university community!

What are you most looking forward to about FW24?

It will be such an exciting time of the year! It's very difficult to choose just one thing, as we have planned so many different events for students. However, I am particularly looking forward to seeing everyone move in during the first weekend. It's an exhilarating time for returning and new students, parents, and staff members of the university.

Why did you apply to be a FWEM?

I volunteered as a FW Captain for the past two years and thoroughly enjoyed it. I think Freshers’ Week is so important for incoming students as it’s their first insight into student life at Bath and I wanted to help make it as good as possible! I also love organising things so being a FWEM was right up my street!

Favourite SU Memory?

Summer Ball! Most of the people that have made my time at Bath so amazing also went, so it was a really lovely way to end my final year. I also got to see Scouting for Girls which was a big bonus!

Drink of Choice?

Coke (not diet or zero, has to be the regular one), preferably flat with ice.

Go to Uni Meal?

Red pesto chicken and potato tray bake!! So easy to make and I just chuck whatever I have left in the fridge into it.
Top Tip for Incoming Freshers?

Don't be afraid to go to everything and talk to everyone! I know it’s daunting meeting so many new people in Freshers’ Week but everyone is in the same boat and just trying to make friends. Use your first year to try out everything (new sports, societies, volunteering groups etc.). The more you put yourself out there, the more you'll get back! It may seem scary but fake it till you make it!

What are you most looking forward to about FW24?

We have brought some new things to FW24 so I'm really excited to see them come to life. I am also very excited to go on the inflatables!
