URB win Gold at this Year’s National Student Radio Awards

URB took home two Gold Medals at the National Student Radio Awards

URB took home two Gold Medals at the National Student Radio Awards which took place in IndigO2 in London on Thursday 11th November.

The Student Radio Awards are the definitive celebration of student radio, and they aim to both celebrate the diversity of content and talent in student radio and to help launch the next generation of radio talent into the radio industry.

The gold awards were won for Best Specialist Programming and Best Radio Chart Show for 2009 – 2010.

The Student Radio Chart Show is a project run by the Student Radio Station who also organised the awards. It involves a network of 20 student radio stations across the country who take it in turns to host the show each week which is then played out across the 20 radio stations. URB were recognised at the best station involved in the network.

The Best Specialist Programming award was given to URB for its unique specialist show run by student Jan Czerbak. The show basically provided a method of introducing students to Polish music that they may not have ordinarily come across, in a show broadcasted in English.

Stephen Briscoe URB Station Manager said “We are extremely happy that we have won these two awards at the National Student Radio Awards. Receiving Best Specialist Programming and Best Student Radio Chart Show really shows some great recognition from the radio industry and I’d like to give my congratulations to Jan for the best specialist award and all those involved in last years chart show. Hopefully this is just the beginning and we hope to continue winning more awards over the next year.”

SU President Daniel O’Toole said: “It’s great to see once again that our student groups are demonstrating excellence not only locally, but nationally”.
