On 6 November, our student radio station URB (University Radio Bath) would have normally headed to the O2 in London to attend the Student Radio Awards (SRAs) however, this year, URB attended a (less glamourous but still just as fun) online SRAs, hosted by Radio 1 and Global, to celebrate the amazing work that the previous URB team (2019/20) had achieved.
URB were nominated for 7 awards, including Best Sports Programming for Owen Midha’s ‘They Think It’s All Over’ show, Best Specialist Music Show with Alexander Robinson’s ‘In Residence With…’ and Best Podcast with Jordan Edwards. Owen worked all year on a fantastic sports show, bringing all the highlights from games that week, so it was no surprise he was nominated. Alex hosted a classical music show where he focused on one composer each week – a well-deserved nomination. Jordan was nominated for not one, but 5 awards, and each was just as deserving as the next!
Hundreds apply for the Student Radio Awards but only a select few are lucky enough to be shortlisted nominees after the scrutiny of nearly 200 judges and radio professional. Any nominations for URB are incredible but to be nominated for 7 awards was truly fantastic.

All in all, it was a hugely successful night for URB and an even bigger success for Jordan Edwards – what a high to leave URB on after graduating!
Here's what Jordan Edwards had to say: “I’m completely shocked by it all to be honest. It felt amazing to be able to represent URB in this way and to win during my final year at radio, although I’m gutted others didn’t win or get nominated despite thoroughly deserving it”
Jordan will truly be missed by everyone at URB but his passion will continue through others he has inspired. Huge congratulations to all the students nominated and everyone involved in supporting and championing URB.
If you are interested in joining URB and want to be a part of this incredible evening next year then make sure to find URB on Facebook and join Media to kick start your way to a gold award just like Jordan.
