Wishing all our students and friends of The SU a Happy New Year.
2021 has got off to a busy start with all SU Officers and staff back in working hard to pick up everything that’s happened over the Christmas period. We know that the winter break will have thrown up some difficult times and worries for many of you; there are many unknowns about what University life will look like in the coming months. We understand the pressure and stress this may cause, particularly during this revision and assessment season.
For those of you entering the exam period we wish you the very best of luck. If you have any questions, or are worried or anxious regarding your exams then our Advice team is here to support you. They can talk you through the different processes available e.g. Individual mitigating circumstances (IMCs), extensions and deferring and will support you to complete which ever process is best for you. This includes advising you on what to put in your form and the evidence to provide and which other services can help you. We also recommend speaking with your Head of Department and personal tutor.
Read the full guidance on IMC’s.
Please remember to take breaks, eat, drink and sleep well, keep active and don’t be afraid to ask for help. For more advice and tips for coping through the exam period visit our Study Well pages. There are further support links at the end of this article and the Advice team is here to help whatever your issue is whether it's academic, housing or personal.
The University will continue to release guidance on the return to campus in line with the ever-changing advice from the government. We know this is hard to keep up with and you will have many questions related to accommodation, travel, in-person teaching and more. The Officers are busy planning ways to support and represent our community throughout these challenges.
Unfortunately, we are having to keep The Plug bar shut during January, we are unable to keep it going as a takeaway only facility at the moment. We will update you with any news regarding re-opening as soon as we are able to. We cannot wait to have you chilling in a booth, munching on a bagel or enjoying a double pint as soon as possible.
Planning for semester 2 is continuing, with our staff working with SU groups looking at how we can continue to support student groups to run their activities safely in whichever tier we find ourselves in come February. Students and staff are looking at how we can improve the virtual offer to make sure we still have the chance to come together whilst restrictions are in place. The SU Bath Community group continues to grow and offers a range of entertainment including virtual quizzes, workouts and watch parties.
The recent news of vaccines being approved and rolled out give us a lot of hope for the future; we cannot wait to put all of this behind us. In the meantime, we want to say a huge thank you to all of you who have helped keeping our community safe. And no matter what comes, we will be there for each other.
