Huge success for Bath at BUCS Nationals 2019

Between Friday 15 February and Sunday 17 February, over 6000 students across the UK travelled to Sheffield for BUCS Nationals. BUCS (British Universities & Colleges Sport) is the governing body that oversees all higher education sport in the UK, and their National Championships featured eight sports:

•    Indoor Athletics
•    Long Course Swimming
•    Fencing
•    Karate
•    Judo
•    Climbing
•    Rifle
•    Badminton

Over the course of the weekend, our athletes won a staggering 25 medals including 7 golds, including impressive record-breaking performances for swimmer, Tom Dean (who beat out two Olympians for Gold!). Bath’s success continued, winning a further 4 medals in Swimming, 3 in Athletics, 9 in Judo, 5 in Karate, and 1 medal for Badminton and Fencing. We’re so proud of the performances that all of our athletes put in over the weekend, as well as all of the hard work in the run up to the competition. Andy Galloway, our SU Sport Officer, has expressed his thanks to everyone involved: “There were some fantastic performances from student-athletes wearing the Blue & Gold over the weekend. Congratulations to all who took part and thank you to the coaches, the Department of Sports Development & Recreation and SU staff that helped make these achievements possible.”
