The SU bar and nightclub took home a gold award and were also named as one of the top 6 SU bars in the UK!
The Students' Union Bar and Nightclub - The Plug & The Tub was awarded a Gold Best Bar None Award at the recent NUS Awards in Birmingham held on 5 July. As well as receiving a Gold Award our venue was also named one of the top six Students' Union bars in the country for the second year running.
Best Bar None is a National Award Scheme supported by the Home Office and aimed at promoting responsible management and operation of alcohol licensed premises. It was piloted in Manchester in 2003 and found to improve standards in the night-time economy, with premises now competing to participate. It has since been adopted by 75 town and cities across the UK and is being taken up internationally.
SU Bars and Entertainment Manager Mike Dalton says: "Once again we are so pleased to retain our gold Best Bar None status. We work really hard to ensure the bar is a safe, welcoming, inclusive environment and it's great to be recognised for this. After a really busy academic year it's nice to have a bit of a break now, but we look forward to welcoming everyone back in September."
