Doctoral  Community Fund

Do you have an idea for an event or scheme that would bring doctoral students together? The Doctoral Community Fund aims to build a healthy doctoral community at Bath, through social events and activities planned and run by doctoral students.

The fund enables doctoral students to take the lead on events or projects, creating valuable interactions that wouldn't take place otherwise.

Criteria

  • All current doctoral students can apply.
  • Projects should bring doctoral students together, enabling them to engage with each other.
  • Innovative events and projects that create community in new ways are more likely to be successful.
  • Funding is available for projects that benefit that benefit doctoral students more broadly, rather than just an individual or a small group.
  • Doctoral events and projects that reach out to doctoral students cross-departmentally or cross-faculty will be given additional priority.

Projects can include initiatives, one-off events or a series of events or activities.

Who decides which projects receive funding?

All Doctoral Community Fund applications which meet the criteria will go to vote by elected doctoral students at the Doctoral Council. If there is not a Doctoral Council within the necessary time-frame, the decision will be made by elected doctoral members of the PGA Executive.

How much money is available?

The Students’ Union has a pot of £1500 to award to doctoral students to develop the doctoral student experience at the University of Bath.

The maximum amount which can be requested from the fund per event is normally £300, but in exceptional circumstances you may be able to apply for more.

In some cases, we may not be able to fund the complete amount requested but might offer partial funding.

What would the SU need after the event?

If you are awarded the Doctoral Community Fund, please provide the following within two weeks after your event/activity:

  • Participation data of the students involved and attending your event.
  • A report about the event that can be used for publication by the SU.
  • Photos of the event for The SU to use in future promotional material. Please ask permission from participants to be included in photos.

Participation data shared with the SU will include numbers attending, numbers of students from different departments and faculties, and may include number of international students. It is just to show how well attended an event is by different student groupings, and while anonymised aggregate data may be published, data relating to individuals will not be published or shared.
