Driving a fleet vehicle is an important and highly responsible task which many students volunteer to carry out. In order to be sure that you’re up to the job, the SU requires its drivers to complete MiDAS training. The theory session is the first of three parts to becoming an authorised SU driver: there is also a Moodle course and an assessed/observed practical drive.

You must have the approval of your Club/Society/Area committee to take part.

The theory session which you are booking comprises:

  • information about how SU Transport operates,
  • your licence and the law,
  • analysis of the causes of collisions,
  • safe driving,
  • driving hours,
  • minibus law (if doing Minibus theory),
  • ethical and environmental considerations,
  • emergency procedures & contingency plans.

Most of our drivers have been driving for a few years since passing the test and this is the first additional training which they will have received. The aim is to invite you to think more deeply about your driving and to prepare you for the assessment/observed drive, where you will be expected to put the theory into practice.

There is a multiple choice theory test paper which has to be passed before drivers can progress to the on-road assessed/observed drive
