Communication Skills. Cooking. Learning Languages. Upcycling. What do all of these things have in common? These topics have all been covered in workshops designed and delivered in semester one by the SU Student Trainers.

Student Trainers are specially trained volunteers who lead training on a range of different skills, with support from the Skills and Development Coordinator and Peer Support Team. The workshops are designed and delivered by the trainers to their peers. These student-led workshops allow both Student Trainers and attendees to build their creative and professional skills in a welcoming environment.

The SU Peer Support Team has just launched Student Trainer Recruitment for the 2022-2023 academic year, and we kindly ask colleagues for assistance in publicising this opportunity to students who are motivated, looking to up-skill, and give back to the community. In addition to gaining confidence and valuable employability skills, the benefits of this role are far-reaching as volunteers will receive bespoke training, mentoring, and careers advice. We are interested in any students who can pass along specialist skills to their peers, in particular those with experience in coding and sign language.

“Each year our student trainers deliver some incredible workshops to help their fellow students develop valuable skills. Becoming a student trainer is a great opportunity for students to develop themselves and build their employability.” Cassie Wilson, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Student Experience).
