The Activities Awards are an annual event celebrating the wide range of activities that take place within the Students' Union.The awards recognise the outstanding efforts of groups and individuals in Societies, Volunteering, Media and Enterprise to produce exciting events and a lively student community, highlighting the hard work and effort that is put in to ensuring that students get the most out of their time at University.

The judging panel will be made up of:

  • Activities Officer, Community Officer and the SU President.
  • Activities Award Working Group, which is made up of Executive Representatives.

All Activity Groups/Events Nominated will be notified of this achievement by the Activities Staff.

Nominations for all awards can be made by any student member of Bath SU. Nominations will normally be shortlisted down to four possibilities (as appropriate) depending on the criteria of the award and the strength of the nominations received. Shortlisted students/groups will only consist of those that have met the requirements of the award.

Winners will be selected depending on how much and how far beyond the criteria they have gone. Winners will be ordinarily the most outstanding shortlisted nomination.

Overall Awards

Most Improved Activity Group

Any activity group can be nominated for this award.

Judges will be looking for:

  • Increased membership numbers from previous years
  • Improved range of activities and events
  • Increased level of participation in activities and events
  • Higher profile of themselves and their events on campus and in Bath
  • Real effort from the committee to communicate with and use the expertise of the areas SU Officer and relevent staff along with the relevent area Executive Committee
  • Excellent attendance at all GMs, Forums, Society Meetings and Area Events (as appropriate)
  • Quick and efficient responce by members of the committee
  • Introduction by committee of new events or activities building on those of the previous year
  • Improvement in participation, events and membership numbers from the previous year

Outstanding Contribution to the Community

Any activity group can be nominated for this award.

Judges will be looking for:

  • High levels of service/links with the local community beyond that ordinarily required/carried out by the society
  • Contributions to the improvement of the University and towns relation
  • Positive feedback or comments from local residents/members of the city

Best Overall Event or Activity

Judges will be looking for:

  • High profile of both the group and their events across the University, Students Union and around Bath
  • Good attendance from both members and non-members at events (if applicable)
  • A high level of participation and enthusiasm from members in group activities
  • Good financial planning; possible applications for the Alumni Fund, Special Request Funds or Sponsorship throught the Marketing Department
  • Prompt and effective communication with SU staff
  • The Society and its committee complied with all SU rules and regulations without problems

The shortlist for this award will include the winners of 'Best Society Event', 'Most Improved Volunteer Activity' and 'Best Project in Media', along with nominations from Enterprise.

 

Best Overall Activity Group

This award will be chosen by the judges.

The shortlist for this award will include the winners of 'Most Improved Activity Group', 'Outstanding Contribution to Community (group), 'Society of the Year', 'Most Improved Volunteer Activity' and 'Best Project in Media' (group).

 

Society Awards

Society of the Year & Best Society in Area

Any Society can be nominated for this award.

Judges will be looking for:

  • High levels of participation in activities and events from members
  • Organisation of a wide range of workshops/classes, activities and events throughout the year both by the committee and the society members
  • Good working relationship with the Activities Office, SU Officers, Societies Executive Committee, Marketing and Finance Offices and other internal or external organisations
  • Participation in various events such as Freshers Week, One Bath, Peace Week or Refresh week as well as other one off events (if applicable)
  • Well designed publicity using a wide range of media outlets
  • High levels of enjoyment from members as a result of participating in the society
  • Good feedback from members

NOMINATIONS CLOSED

Nominations for this award will first be considered by area for 'Best Arts Society', 'Best Departmental Society', 'Best Ethical & Political Society', 'Best Faith & Cultural Society' and 'Best Recreational Society'. The winners of these 5 awards will form the shortlist for 'Society of the Year'.

The winner of this award will automatically be on the shortlist for 'Best Overall Activity Group' which will be chosen by our judges.

 

Best Society Event

Any Society can be nominated for this award. This can be any activity run by the Society whether social or non-social.

Judges will be looking for:

  • High level of participation from both members and non-members (as applicable)
  • The event was well organised
  • The Society and its committee complied with all SU rules and regulations without problems
  • Highly successful event with excellent succeeding events
  • Prompt and effective communication with SU staff

The winner of this award will automatically be on the shortlist for 'Best Overall Event or Activity'

Outstanding Individual Contribution to Societies

Any student that has been involved with the running of one or more Socieites and their events or a student involved with the Executive Committee can be nominated for this award. Students do not have to be on a committee to be nominated for this award.

Judges will be looking for:

  • Attendance at all the relevant society committee, executive committee, general meetings and events throughout the year
  • The degree to which the student has gone beyond the "call of duty" for their role
  • Encouragement of the participation of members and non-members to engage in events and activities
  • Prompt and effective communication with SU staff

Volunteering Awards

Most Improved Volunteer Activity

Any Volunteer Group Activity or Event can be nominated for this award. New Activities or Events can also be nominated for this award.

Judges will be looking for:

  • Good attendance from both members and non-members at events (if applicable)
  • A high level of participation and enthusiasm from members in group activities
  • Good financial planning; possible applications for the Alumni Fund, Special Request Funds or Sponsorship throught the Marketing Department
  • Prompt and effective communication with SU staff
  • The Volunteer Group and its committee complied with all SU rules and regulations without problems

Outstanding Contribution to Volunteering

Any student from any group run through the Volunteer Centre can be nominated for this award.

Judges will be looking for:

  • Attendance at all the relevant group committee, executive committee, general meetings and events throughout the year
  • The degree to which the student has gone beyond the "call of duty" for their role
  • Encouragement of the participation of members and non-members to engage in events and activities
  • Prompt and effective communication with SU staff

Best Volunteer Newcomer

Any student who has been a member of one or more Volunteering Groups or Activities for the first time in their University of Bath education this past year can be nominated for this award.

Judges will be looking for:

  • High levels of participation and contribution to the running of the volunteer group, its events or activities
  • Improvement in knowledge, expertise or ability throughout the year
  • Promise for the year to come through evidence of ideas for their particular groups' development and improvement (if applicable)

Media Awards

Best Project in Media

Any project or event that has been run within Student Media can be nominated for this award.

Judges will be looking for:

  • High levels of creativity and innovation 
  • High levels of participation from members
  • Appealing to a wide range of students
  • Achieving the goals required of the project
  • Shown the ability to work well with other Students' Union clubs / Societies / student groups.
  • Laying the groundwork of a successful event / project to be followed in subsequent years

Best Contribution to Media

Any student who has been involved in the running of Student Media can be nominated for this award.

Judges will be looking for:

  • The degree to which the student has gone beyond the "call of duty" for their role.
  • Encouragement of the participation of members and non-members to engage in events and activities.
  • Prompt and effective communication with SU staff.
  • Been a key player in facilitating cross media initiative
  • Been a dependable and reliable member, who uses their own knowledge to train and develop others.
