The Annual Summer Ball is the only way to celebrate the end of exams and the start of the summer. The event is held across the University of Bath Campus spread over 11 different indoor and outdoor venues including the main stage in the Founders Sports Hall. With over 4000 students attending, this truly is the biggest event of the year and the only opportunity to see your campus completely transformed!

The ball has a variety of entertainment including: Casino, Fun Fair Rides, Fun Fair Games, Street Performers, Acoustic Tent, Disco Funk Bar, Champagne Bar, Motown Room, Live DJs, Live Bands and so much more.

This is a black tie event - this means dinner jackets, tuxedos (smart suits are also ok), dresses or ball gowns.

Campus will open its gates at 19:00 and will close at 02:00.

Buy your wristband

Sold Out

In an unexpected record time, Summer Ball tickets have now sold out

Wristbands must be collected from The Tub between 11:00 and 15:00 from 30 May – 1 June. You will need to bring your library card with you to collect. If you purchased your wristband early with your NUS Extra Card you must also bring your NUS Extra Card with you.

There will not be any other opportunities to collect your wristbands outside of this period. We do appreciate that this is during your exam period but please make sure you plan in advance when you will be able to pick up your wristband. We do allow friends to collect on your behalf if you are unable to get to campus.

If you are collecting wristbands on behalf of someone else you must bring with you a copy of their confirmation email as well as a letter signed by them stating that you are picking it up for them. This letter must have the student ID number of the purchaser on it, and the number of wristbands you are collecting.

IMPORTANT: Lost wristbands will not be replaced, so PLEASE ENSURE YOU KEEP THEM SAFE.

Those who pay for delivery will have their wristbands posted out by recorded delivery and will need to be signed for. You will be emailed when it has been sent. Once wristband sales are closed we can’t post any wristbands out if delivery wasn’t selected during the sales process.

I've lost my wristband, can I get another?
No. Sorry but under no circumstances will we replace lost or stolen wristbands. So please keep it somewhere really safe.

How is the capacity of the ball calculated?
The capacity of the Summer Ball is calculated based on how many indoor venues we have and their capacity. Although we have many outdoor venues the figures have to be based on indoor venues in case of bad weather. Our indoor venues include The Claverton Rooms, The Parade Bar, The Student Centre, The Plug, The Tub and the Main Sports Hall. Please note that entrance to some venues will be restricted due to individual capacity reasons.

I am disappointed that I didn’t get a ticket is there anything I can do?

Unfortunately due to the capacity issues there is nothing we can do to extend the ticket sales. The ball is targeted mainly at graduating students and that is why they get priority. Every student will become a graduating student at some point and benefit from early release. We do have a waiting list which you can add your details to should anyone request a refund for a genuine reason. We are unlikely to have many available this way however.

Selling Wristbands

Under no circumstances do we condone the selling of wristbands. This event is meant to be for as many students as possible to enjoy one of the biggest events of the year. It is not meant to be a money making opportunity for students. Please do not purchase tickets for over the cost price.

Where do I collect my wristband?
Wristbands can be collected from The Tub only between 11am - 3pm from the 30 May – 1 June. You will need to bring your library card with you to collect. If you purchased your ticket early with your NUS Extra Card you must also bring your NUS Extra Card with you. We appreciate this is between the exam period so please ensure you think in advance about when you can pick yours up. There will be no opportunity outside this time to collect your wristband.

Can someone else collect my wristband on my behalf?
Yes. If you are collecting tickets on behalf of someone else you must bring with you a copy of their confirmation email as well as a letter signed by them stating that you are picking it up for them. This letter must have the student ID number of the purchaser on it. You will also need a photo of their NUS Extra Card Number if they purchased with an Extra card. The NUS Extra card must be in the name of the person who purchased the ticket.

Why can't the Summer Ball stay open any later?
We are restricted by how late the Summer Ball can run due to the location of the campus and the fact that the ball has a lot of outside attractions. We are surrounded by local residents and were advised by Environmental Health Officers that staying open past 2am could be considered noise pollution and would threaten future events on campus.

Is there any food available at the ball?
There will be a range of food outlets available at the ball. More details will follow shortly. Please note this is not included in your ticket price.

What does Subject to contract mean in association with the acts?
All acts when booked are subject to contract. This may mean that due to circumstances beyond our control acts may pull out of the event (e.g they may be asked to appear on TV). If this does happen we will ensure to let all ticket holders know with as much notice as possible and do our best to find an alternative act.

What does black tie dress code mean? Do I have to wear it?
It means the event had a dress code. Dinner jackets, tuxedoes, dresses or ball gowns. You will be refused entry if you are not in appropriate dress.

Will I have access to cash machines at the ball?
Card payments are accepted at all bars and cashback will be available from The Plug and Tub. There are cash machines on site, however they very often run out of cash due to high demand so please ensure you bring sufficient cash with you.

Is there going to be any first aid available?
Additional cover will be provided for the event. They will be on site for emergencies. There will be a temporary first aid room set up as well as teams of trained staff patrolling the event. An event control room will also be set up monitoring health & wellbeing of attendees.

Where are the toilets located on campus?
Toilets are located in The Plug & The Tub, Parade Bar, under the Parade Bar, the Student Centre, The Lime Tree and in the Claverton Rooms. There will also be mobile toilets in Area 4. Disabled toilets are located in the University Hall Building, The Student Centre and The Tub.

What is the accessibility like at the Ball?
See full details about accessibility at the Summer Ball

How can I get to and from campus on the night of the Ball?

How is the money from the Ball spent?
Every penny from ticket sales is put back into the event. There are numerous costs including Advertising, Technical Set Up, Security, Tickets & Wristbands, Venue Hire, Signage, Marquee Hire, Staffing as well as the Entertainment provided and for such a large scale event for 4000 people this costs in the region of £180,000.
