Committee

The Committee

Like every sports club at Bath, the UBKC is run by a keen and dedicated group of students - each elected by fellow club members. You can catch us at training and competitions, and we are your points of contact for any club-related queries or issues. The UBKC committee for the 2023/24 academic year are:

Chair

Hello everyone! I’m Jonny, and I’ll be your Chair for the year. I'm the first point of contact for anything about the club.

We have an amazing committee this year and lots of exciting things planned, and I canny wait to meet yous all in a couple weeks (pardon the Geordie).

A bit about me then… I started karate when I was 5, achieving my black belt at 9, and competing for England ever since, achieving multiple British, European and World medals and titles. I am originally Shotokan, but have competed recently aswell in Shito-Ryu and Ryeui-Ryu too. As a fresher both last year and this year again, I canny emphasise enough how important it is to give things a go, and I really look forward to have a great year with you all!

Looking forward to seeing you all!

Vice Chair

Hi everybody!

My name is Adam and I'm a final year engineering student. I started karate in first year and have thoroughly enjoyed myself ever since.

I’m looking forward to working with the rest of the committee to keep growing the club and provide the best possible experience for our members.

I look forward to meeting you all at the Wednesday ‘Fighting and Fitness’ sessions!

Secretary

Hi I’m Evie and I’m your secretary for the year! This will be my 4th year at the club and second time on your committee.

My favourite part of karate is kata, and my favourite being Anan.

I love talking to new people and helping out so please come and talk to me if you have any concerns.

I look forward to meeting you all soon!

Treasurer

Hello! I'm Hiren and I started learning karate last year at the club and I’ve had a blast!

I spend most of my time playing guitar and chess, as well as reading around random subjects which fascinate me.

I wasn't too sure what the club would be like for me, having not done karate before, but I’ve found everyone to be really helpful and welcoming.

If you're thinking of joining, come along to a session and give it a shot!

Men's Captain

Hi, I’m Joseph, a final year maths student. I have been doing karate for over 15 years and competed at a national level in WKF kumite.

I have also coached at my home club for 5 years.

This will be my 3rd year as men’s captain for the karate team. Looking forward to coaching your kumite sessions this year.

Women's Captain

Hi! I'm Holly and I am a sports enthusiast that's always up for a challenge.

I am passionate and dedicated to both my karate and education.

I love meeting new people and being part of a team. Can’t wait to meet you all soon!

UP THE TUBS, UOB!!!

Kit Officer

Hi! I'm Liam and I'll be your Kit Officer for this coming year.

I was born in London but learnt karate in France where I spent most of my childhood.

I'm more of a kata guy, with my favourite being Sochin, but I go to the kumite sessions for the fitness, to carry the kit and to try and not get swept by Alex.

Looking forwards to this year I have practised karate for 9 years and would love to share my passion for combat sports and karate with all of you future karatekas. If you need any help you can always come and ask me questions.

I'm looking forward to seeing you all in september :D

Inclusivity & Welfare Officer

Hi! I'm Sanika and I'm your Welfare and Inclusivity Officer. I’m thrilled for you all to join us next year. Being the welfare and inclusivity officer I want to ensure that everyone gets the opportunity to enjoy karate as much as I do.

I’ve been doing karate for the past 9 years and throughly enjoy training and learning new Katas!

I’m looking forward to meeting you all!
