What We Do

Hi! We are BVGS - the society for anyone interested in gaming at the University of Bath. We welcome all skill levels, including those who enjoy a more relaxed approach to playing games, as well as those who play competitively online.

We host a range of in-person and online events, and we have our own gaming community in our Discord, where you can find friends to play with (casually or in tournaments) and see announcements from us.

Inclusivity

We are highly committed to creating a community that is inclusive and safe for all. We won the SU Award for Most Inclusive Group in 2020/21 and 2023/24, and we have been awarded the Gold Inclusivity Award from the SU in each academic year since then.

We have a dedicated Women & Non-Binary (W&NB) community within our Discord. We also arrange teams for W&NB tournaments, which are tournaments where only those who identify as female and/or non-binary can compete.

Our Events

LANs

Experience a weekend of social fun and friendly competition at our LAN events—designed with everyone in mind!

• Admission is free!
• Flexible hours: Join us for a few hours or the entire weekend.
• Diverse game selection: Mario Kart, poker, Valorant, League, or suggest your favorite!
• Don't feel like bringing your setup? PS5, Switch, and more available at the front.
• Welcoming environment: Drop by anytime and make new friends while having a blast!

Events & Socials

We also host a range of events, like watch parties, collaborations with other societies, such as Tabletop & BCSS, and our Smash Weeklies, where we organise our own Super Smash Bros. tournament that incorporates friendly matches. Our Genshin Impact Day was a favourite among our members last year and for 2024/25, we are planning more of these events, including Genshin Impact again!

We also have a variety of socials throughout the year, such as: Console Socials, Video Game themed Pub Quizzes, Ice-Skating, Christmas Dinner & many more!

Esports

Within our Discord Server, you'll find a large Esports community dedicated to a range of games, including VALORANT, League of Legends, Overwatch 2, CS2, and many more.

We run our own friendly matches and enter teams to represent us in University Esports Leagues such as NSE (National Student Esports) and NUEL (National University Esports League). We field multiple teams per game, categorised by skill level. Whether you're highly competitive or just looking to have fun, we'll have a suitable team for you!
