Conference Workshops

Know How, Masterclass, Inspire

Our workshops are all broadly themed around these three formats:

Know How - These workshops will help develop some of the skills you may find useful in your role as a student representative.

Masterclass - These workshops will help you to gain knowledge on a topical or emerging issue, giving you background and context and understanding of issues impacting the student experience.

Inspire - These workshops will inspire you to become change makers and understand where your experience as Reps may take you.

When you register to attend the conference you will choose the workshops you want to attend on the day, meaning that your Student Voice Conference experience is tailored to you! Click on the grey bars to discover more about the individual workshops to help you decide. Alternatively download the conference description guide to read all the descriptions in one document.

Some of our workshops which we expect to be popular are repeated in more than one block, this will be highlighted in the description.

Workshop Block A  11.15-12.00

A1 Preparing our students to save the planet

Presenter: Dr Nuno M Reis, Reader in Chemical Engineering

Suitable for: Any student representative

Type of session: Masterclass

Description: For a long time, higher education has been a place where students with superior academic ability could access specialised knowledge and training in preparation for a professional career. Yet with ongoing global issues like climate crisis, pandemics, wars, energy crisis - all outside our control - there is an urgent need in enabling our students to develop ‘adaptive intelligence’ required to sustain creativity, at the basis of our modern technological society, and an interest in a very important common asset: our planet Earth. In my view a transformation in learning & teaching attitude is required and that can effectively start in the classroom, by exposing the students to a range of modern learning methodologies that foster the development of important transferable skills, in line with curriculum (transformation) principles. In this workshop I will showcase some of my attempts in re-inventing the classroom by offering an enhanced learning experience that fosters creativity, performance and, above all, the wellbeing of students and staff.
