StatsBomb Services was founded in January 2017 to deliver industry leading Football Data & Analytics for teams, Media and gambling companies. We work with clubs from all over the world, our direct contacts range from field level analysts and coaches to directors of football, CEOs, and owners.
StatsBomb has a history of producing new research, data visualisations and insights into the game of football. We have developed our own proprietary industry leading software.
We are based in the University of Bath Innovation Centre, and are growing fast.
About the role
StatsBomb is looking for enthusiastic, committed students studying degrees in Computer Science or related Sciences with relevant Computer Science modules to join our growing company, serving some of the biggest clubs in world football.
The role will focus on developing our web-based analytics platform, built on top of a database of hundreds of millions of events captured from football games around the world. The platform provides tools and visualisations to explore player, team and match data, so the role will include developing attractive and usable user interfaces, as well as some detailed database exploration and creation of mathematical models as specified by our Data Science team.
The position is full-time in our Bath office for 10 weeks, with a potential for full-time employment at the end of the internship for exceptional candidates.
We are a new, fast growing company, with an incredibly full roadmap and are therefore looking for interns who are driven, self-motivated, flexible and comfortable working at a fast pace.
The ideal candidate will have an interest in football/soccer data, UI, as well as excellent problem solving skills.
- Final year or recently completed a Computer Science or related degree
- Experience with a range of software languages
- Experience working with complex databases
- SQL skills
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Basic visualisation skills in Tableau/d3js/ggplot/SVG
- Basic understanding of football
- Team player, self-motivated, hard-working
- Source control and collaboration with Git
- Experience with:
- PostgreSQL databases
- Clojurescript/React Framework
- Comfortable with R's data analysis stack (tidyverse)
Experience with our software stack would be beneficial:
- R - analytics software
- Clojure & ClojureScript
- HTML & SVG
