We are absolutely delighted to announce that The SU has been awarded a Good Green Impact Students’ Union Award. The award recognises the work The SU has done to demonstrate leadership on embedding sustainability and social justice across campus, the curriculum, and within the wider society.

Green Impact provides a framework and guidance for students’ unions to work on areas such as equality, community, curriculum reform and campaigning, whilst enabling them unions to showcase their work and share best practice. 2019/20 marked the 13th year of the programme with 50 Students’ Unions taking part.

The Green Impact Auditor said “It was fantastic to hear about the sustainability work that The SU, have been doing. The SUmmit was a particular great example of how to engage students and discuss student sustainability priorities. It was really impressive that not only have students been consulted but they have also worked collaboratively to action suggestions, ideas and initiatives”.

The Auditor added “The SU has been successful in working with the university to ensure that there is commitment to ambitious carbon reduction targets, the impacts of which will result in huge carbon savings.”

Whilst there has been lots of good work so far, there is still a long way to go. The foundations have been established and we’re is in a fantastic position to start working on more radical action, change and campaigns.

Francesco, SU President said “We are incredibly pleased to have received this result, as it is exactly what we have set out at the beginning of Academic Year 2019/2020. It sets in stone our commitment as an organisation in the fight against climate change. Importantly, this is just the beginning of our environmental strategy, laying a solid ground onto which we will build over the next three years”.
