Top Tips

  • Check past exam papers – they will give you an idea of the topics that have been covered in previous years.
  • Take regular breaks – aim for at least a 5 minute break each hour
  • Take time to do the things you enjoy – read a book, watch films, spend time with friends or do something else which will help you feel more focused when you are studying and give you something to look forward to at the end of the day
  • Spend time outside – try to get some fresh air in your breaks by going for a walk or sitting outside to have your lunch
  • Ask for help – if you find yourself getting stressed or anxious about your exams, try to talk to a friend or family member or go to the Advice and Representation Centre to speak to an advisor
  • Treat yourself – when you finish an exam, treat yourself by taking the rest of the day off or at least an hour or two to do something fun
  • Get some sleep – make sure you get a good amount of sleep to improve your concentration
  • Use different types of revision – try drawing pictures, putting notes around your room or recording spoken notes
  • Think about your revision environment – you may work better with quiet background music or away from distractions
  • Consider mitigating circumstances – if a temporary condition may significantly impact your performance in an assessment, make sure you seek advice on applying for Individual Mitigating Circumstances
