Long time no talk! I admit, I did miss my bi-weekly blog last week… things got so busy and it just kept getting pushed to the bottom of the pile… but anyways, I am back to update you on things that have been going on!
I had my first VC breakfast with most members of my D&S Exec as well as the three Norwood Hall Reps from last year. It was so nice- it was hosted in the Woodlands (a very fancy building) and we got free breakfast… what more can you ask for?! We had a lovely chat with the Vice Chancellor and with everyone that was able to attend. I thought it was such an amazing opportunity to be able to thank these student leaders for all their hard work and dedication.
We also hosted our first international forum last week! We had just under 30 international students attending, coming for a chat (and free lunch) and to answer some of our questions that we asked them about their student experience. The topics we covered were things like what they would like to see during the winter holidays (if they are staying in Bath), if they know where to go for help if they are having trouble with finding accommodation for the coming year and if they are satisfied with advice on graduate jobs and placements. Personally, I thought that we had a lot of very valuable conversations, and I am already excited to start planning the next forum!
Finally, an exciting event coming our way is the local council meeting next week. I will be attending with Jiji (our SU president) who will be giving a speech demanding a better standard and better affordability of student housing in Bath. We are asking students to send over pictures of mould they have in their house which we can present during the speech- so if your house has any mould, shoot me an email at sucommunity @bath.ac.uk with some photos of it! It would be really helpful for us to be able to make our case!
