SU Sport Officer Update

My First Blog (Ever)

Wow, what a first couple of weeks! Thank you to everyone who have sent messages of support and encouragement as I started my Officer term. A particular thank you goes out to my predecessor - Tom Sawko, for all of his work in SU Sport over the last two years and for the encouragement to run for this role in the first place. Its safe to say, I have big shoes to fill!

I am excited to get really stuck in to this role and continue the good work that the officers before me have done. Over the past 3 weeks, I have been busy getting used to the role and having intoductions with the University and Students Union staff. I have also loved getting to know my fellow Officers and spending lots of time with my office buddy - SU Activities Officer, Zoe. We are all super excited for students to return in September and get back into full swing. In the meantime, I would just like to highlight a few of the things I have been working on recently.

Manifesto:
I have been getting in touch with various people regarding my manifesto and looking at the feasibility of the projects I would like to do. There are some projects I would like to add and others that may need scaling back. I am making progress on facility bookings, memberships, the return to sport in September, second hand kit sales/swaps, along with some other key areas. I can't wait to continue with these projects and update you throughout the year.

Memberships:
One of the things that had to be discussed rather quickly was the sporting membership for this coming year. I think the structure we have discussed will be beneficial and incredible value for those who would like to play one or multiple sports. Watch this space for the final decision over the nect few weeks!

Club Culture:
I have had meetings with student services, our SU staff and the SU Community Officer about what we can do to improve club culture within our sports clubs. Student Services are working on the #bethechange module which is looking fantastic and will be great for all sports members to complete to make are clubs more inclusive than ever. I have also been discussing options for additional more specific training such as sexual consent and equality, diversity and inclusion.

Gymtimidation:
We are excited for the relationship between the gym and the student body to grow this year as they are open to new ideas to facilitate student wishes and needs, particularly from a wellbeing stance. There are lots of things we would like to explore in relation to the gym throughout the year, so watch this space! If you have any ideas on what we can do with the gym, I would love to hear your thoughts.

Exec:
We still have some excitng oppotunities to be part of the SU Sports Exec Committee this coming year. If you would like to help shape the sporting experience here at Bath and have the unique oppotunity to work on projects that you are really interested in. The roles still available are: Treasurer, Volunteer Recognition Coordinator, Performance Sport Officer, Recreational Sports Officer and Inclusivity Officer. If you would like any more information on these roles, please get in contact. Elections will be running in August.

There is lots that I would love to do this year with my role and I am so excited to be working with students in order to do this, hopefully in person! If you have any questions about my role or what I am up to, please get in touch!

Hope you all have a fantastic summer!

Elizabeth.
