SU Sport Officer Update

A quieter month...touch wood

So, after a pretty busy beginning of June and July, things have settled down a bit and been a bit quieter (touch wood). After returning from BUCS conference and the madness of graduations finalised, I was onto my next task which was assigning the budgets for the upcoming year. This has been challenging, its hard making the right decisions sometimes with knowing the point of view of the students as well as my new current one within the SU. But I believe this year was a big success and will see a lot of clubs in a great position to have a successful year.

Aside from that, there’s been a few little projects I have been working on:

  • An offer for athletes to gain knowledge and experience of what their qualities as an athlete can do for them in the working world, along with CV workshops and sponsorship opportunities is looking to become available before Christmas which is exciting.
  • I am looking at a potential for an S&C offer for clubs around the limitations of facility and staff availability that is currently causing barriers to this necessity.
  • Us officers are working on the Top 10 priorities for the year (A priority tool to work on with the University), I am pushing for safer sport to be included in this.
  • I’ve had meetings with performance Sport in the STV around longer-term plans to provide more showcase events for clubs.
  • The long awaited 3G has been signed off and in plans to be developed for the 24/25 season.
  • Working with Jura the post-grad Officer on a long-term plan in helping postgraduate students have better access to Sport around their timetables.

Away form the office, we attended the NUS Lead and Change Conference in Roehampton which was a great way to meet other SU Officers from around the UK. I found out a lot of useful information about their sport offers and how this differs from ours, giving ways we can improve but also highlighting the great position we are in as an SU for the athletes to get the best experience. I also noted quite a few manifesto points from other officers which I think would be great to try and include. Overall, the experience was great to socialise and meet others as well as spend time with my own team.

On a more personal note, I took some annual leave and went camping which was a great break away from work, even though British summer time is dismal currently. And I have started preseason for rugby which is nice to have that in the evenings.

As always, my door is always open and so is my inbox – emails don’t always have to be formal, I’d love a quick team’s message if you’d prefer. Please let me know if there’s anything you’d like to see change about sport at bath and we can discuss the steps to do this!
