Freshers BBQ is a great opportunity for people who are thinking about joining the club to try out both the sport and the social side! It's a quick paddle on the Avon, and then a BBQ! Guaranteed to be a great night!
We’re meeting outside the library on campus by 1:50pm and walking down to Bath Canoe Club Boathouse to arrive around 2:30pm. The address is: Bath Canoe Club, Cleveland Cotts, BA1 5UE. If it’s more convenient for you to meet us at the boathouse you’re welcome to. We’re then paddling on the river for a couple hours, followed by a fantastic BBQ! (Vegans & Vegetarians will be catered for-let us know of any other requirements). You can also just come for the BBQ if you don't have time for the paddle - this will be starting about 6pm and afterwards we'll probably head to the pub!
*IMPORTANT IF YOU WANT TO PADDLE*
Due to SU rules, you have to have completed a Swim Test before we can let you out on the river. These can be done at any of our pool session tasters, which are Monday 9-10pm, Tuesday 8-10pm and Thursday 9-10pm, or you can do a swim test with another water sport. However, you don't need a membership so feel free to bring your friends to a quick swim test and then to our bbq!
For the river session bring some clothes you’re happy to get wet in, including some old trainers or similar. Make sure you have some dry, warm clothes for afterwards, and possibly something nicer for the pub afterwards. There are changing rooms at the boathouse.
We’d love everyone to make the full event, but if you can only make parts of the day, that’s not a problem, you’re welcome for whatever you can make it to. The BBQ should be kicking off at about 6pm for those who don't want to paddle. Also don't forget £5 cash you won't be able to get food and drink without it!
