Employment Rights
As an employee you need to ensure you are given a contract, you are trained (for example in health and safety), and you and your employer do not break the law (for example discrimination). You can find lots of information here:
If you are an International or EU student it is your responsibility to understand any restrictions on your working and any laws that may apply just to you. Good websites include:
Tax and National Insurance
All students should understand the tax implications of working, and you can find plenty of useful information here:
Please note, the University of Bath’s tax reference is 034/B2710 which you may need to quote on any dealings with the tax office.
All working students should have a national insurance number. If you were not born in the UK you need to apply for one (they are free so don’t be fooled by someone asking for money to help you get one):

And finally, remember that you are here to study, so don’t let your part time job take over. If you need to take a break from your job in order to complete academic work, give your employer as much notice as possible.
