Are you looking for an hourly paid job that can be flexible around your other commitments? Come and work for us as a Casual Commis Chef at our Claverton Down campus (BA2 7AY).
The University’s Hospitality Department proudly provides catering services to students, staff, and external guests, offering a diverse range of food and beverage options across our outlets. We’re currently hiring Casual Commis Chefs to join our vibrant teams at The Lime Tree, Sports Café, and Pavilion Café.
About The Role
As a Casual Commis Chef, you’ll work alongside a team of passionate chefs to deliver high-quality, varied food offerings. Your responsibilities will include:
- Assisting with food preparation and cooking in a fast-paced kitchen
- Maintaining high standards of food safety and allergen management
- Supporting daily kitchen operations with professionalism and care.
We’re seeking individuals who:
- Have experience working in a commercial kitchen
- Possess solid knife skills and a good understanding of food hygiene
- Are reliable, proactive, and thrive under pressure
- Maintain a positive attitude and work well in a team
- Can communicate effectively in written and spoken English with colleagues and customers
Shift Details:
- Shifts vary weekly, with most falling on weekends
- Early starts from 07:00 and late finishes up to 20:30 may be required
- Minimum commitment of two shifts per week
- Full training provided
We require the following:
- Flexibility to work on shifts that could be mornings from 07:00 and evenings to 20:30, weekends & weekdays
- Available for a minimum of two shifts per week with a start date for training in the afternoon on 21 October 2025
- As well as your skills, we're interested in you and your personality; we need real team players who are keen to learn.
- A positive attitude, demonstrating an ability to form effective working relationships with other team members.
- The ability to work in a safe environment and protecting others around you.
- You should have a proactive attitude and be prepared to work under pressure in a fast paced, demanding environment.
In return University of Bath will offer good pay rates of £12.60 per hour, inclusive of holiday pay this equates to £14.12 per hour.
The positions are on a casual basis and hours will therefore be flexible as and when required by the business. Pay is monthly in arrears. Full training will be provided. If you are offered a role, you will need to demonstrate that you are eligible to work in the UK. The Home Office provides guidance on what evidence to provide.
