URB Meets Tom Grennan
Tom Grennan is one of the UK’s fastest rising stars - and you may not even know it. The man from Bedford has sneaked his way onto Radio 1 playlists and video game soundtracks throughout 2017, long before the release of his debut album set to launch in March next year.
I was fortunate enough to spend ten minutes with Tom before he took the stage at Thekla, Bristol during his latest run of sold-out shows. We talked about the man’s dramatic rise, his excitement to show off the tracks he’s been recording for ‘Lighting Matches’ and the huge collaborations that Grennan’s featured in on his way to his recent success.
In eighteen months, the sound of Tom Grennan has now become unavoidable, and that’s certainly not a complaint. Recently, Tom’s track, ‘Found What I’ve Been Looking For’ (not a sequel to the U2 hit, by the way), has become the theme tune to Sky Sports Football, been well-placed on the soundtrack for FIFA 18, and of course playlisted by your’s truly, URB x
As a live performer, Grennan was vocally stunning. Despite complaints of his voice not feeling up to scratch, he was able to sound perfect, if not an improvement on, the recorded singles. The hour-long set saw Tom tease the Bristol crowd with tracks ready for release within the upcoming album, but also treated them with the songs that have taken him to the stature he’s got himself to today - including a stripped back rendition of Chase & Status’ ‘All Goes Wrong’, the hit which TG leant his vocals to.
