Gravity Vomit present Upchuck

Saturday 27th Feb

Local people are invited to a one day juggling and circus skills convention at the University of Bath on Saturday 27 Feb.

Bath UpChuck 2010 is unique to the city and is suitable for all ages and levels, with workshops, tasters and games throughout the day.

The event will be attended by around 350 students and juggling enthusiasts from all over the country.

Bath UpChuck is in its second year, organised by students from the University’s juggling and circus skills society (Gravity Vomit) and supported by funding from ICIA and RELAYS.

The RELAYS project seeks to engage young people in the South West in sporting and cultural events in the run up to the London 2012 Games.

This is the largest of Gravity Vomit’s events - the society is well known in the local community for running circus skills workshops at local schools, Brownie and Scout groups and youth clubs.

Kate Aldridge, one of the student organisers said: “Juggling and circus skills are fun activities for all the family and are a good way to exercise in a non-competitive manner and have even been shown to increase brain power.

“Students and professional performers will be teaching various circus disciplines including juggling, poi, diabolo, staff spinning, hula hooping and balloon modelling, so we really hope local people will come along and get involved.”

Lovely Jugglies (a juggling store based in Somerset) will be selling juggling equipment at the event, or equipment will be on loan from Gravity Vomit for use throughout the day.

The day event runs from 11am to 7.30pm in the Founders Sports Hall and there will also be an evening performance, held in University Hall from 7.30pm, which will feature many professional jugglers and performers from around the UK.

Bath UpChuck 2009 (supported by funding from University of Bath Alumni Fund, RELAYS and ICIA) was the first juggling convention to be held in Bath for over 15 years – it was a great success with almost 300 people attending. The society hopes to continue running the convention in future years, with profits being used to help fund the following year’s convention.

Tickets cost £4 day, £4 evening, £7 combined and are available on the door. Alternatively, tickets can be bought before the event by contacting the ICIA box office on 01225 386777. Visit www.bathupchuck.co.uk for more detailed information.
