On the 5th November, 8 Bath tramps invaded Loughborough for their yearly uni competition. The training session was a success, with Annie learning that Maroon was a colour. Despite Bannister losing her keys and everyone being locked in the car park until a fireworks display ended, we eventually made it to some of the Loughborough people’s houses to get ready for the night out. Once ready, some of the girls somehow got locked out of the house but being the prepared captain she is, Bannister had her head torch at the ready and they escaped. A great night out followed, with everyone cracking out some incredible dance moves.
In the morning, feeling as fresh as ever and definitely not tired or hungover, we made our way to the competition. First up was the novice women’s event and it was the first ever competition for all 3 Bath competitors. With 51 people in this group it was a very tough competition! Georgie Kirby performed 2 great routines to finish 13th, whilst Dani Pontonutti and Caitlin Isaacs finished 41st and 50th respectively, each with some great elements in their routine but unfortunately not being marked out of 10 for both routines.
In the interadvanced group, Abi Brooks completed two brilliant routines to finish in 1st place, 0.8 marks above 2nd place. Fantastic! Annie Godley, in her first trampolining competition, finished in 7th place and was only 0.8 off 3rd place, showing how tight the fight was for that trophy. In the Advanced category, Charlotte Broadhead finished both routines despite a casual run to the toilets to throw up during warm up. Finishing in 4th place, and being only 0.2 off a 3rd place trophy was a great achievement. In Elite women’s, Nicola Bannister finished in 9th place even with the addition of landing on the end-deck in one of her routines! Finally, in the Uber category, Rebecca Haywood finished in 4th place.
As well as trampolining, a DMT competition took place where Nicola Bannister finished in 2nd place in the novice category. There was also a ‘stuck or suck’ competition for DMT which Georgie Kirby – having never done DMT before – came 1st!
The day finished with a standard athlete’s dinner at McDonalds and then a long car journey back listening to classic fm. Delightful.
Well done to everyone that competed! It was a fantastic weekend, with everyone having fun and gaining experience in trampolining competitions.
