University Press Office about Apps Crunch and Bath Digital Festival Launch event:
The 2014 Apps Crunch competition will launch next week as part of the Bath Digital Festival, offering a tantalizing prize trip to meet tech experts in San Francisco.

The competition calls on current students (undergraduate or postgraduate) to come up with an idea for an app, and design and present a viable business model.
Students are invited to come along to the opening event on Wednesday 22 October 6pm-8.30pm at 1W2.103 which will showcase the key festival events to support participants and include a speed dating session to find team mates from across the University.
Staff are also invited to the event, to hear more about the Bath Digital Festival, and its programme of events. There are free tickets for some of the festival events and a chance for everyone to win tickets for the Digital Festival Halloween Party.
Entrants will skill up at workshops and events hosted by industry experts at the Bath Digital Festival, running in Bath from 27 October to 5 November.
The Apps Crunch finale will be held at the end of November, when the leading teams will present their app to a panel of experts. The winners can then look forward to an all-expenses paid trip to Silicon Valley to meet University of Bath alumni working at Facebook, Instagram, Apple and Eventbrite. The trip is funded by gifts made by alumni based in the United States, through the University of Bath Foundation Ltd.
Siobain Hone, Enterprise Education Manager in the Students’ Union said: “Apps Crunch is a fantastic student experience. You’ll have the chance to work with software experts and entrepreneurs, to devise your app idea, create a solid business case and a prototype, and pick up career enhancing skills along the way. For the winners, it’s an unbelievable opportunity to showcase your ideas and skills to some of the most influential tech and business minds in the world.”
