New Groups forming
Out of the energy of the Transition Pathways event last week a couple of new groups have started to emerge and would like to invite others who are interested.
Fareshare
This Wed 8th December there is a group meeting about Fareshare. Fareshare is an organisation that redistributes surplus food from the food and drink industry. Someone from Fareshare Bristol is coming to the group to talk about what it is they do so this will be a great way to find out more. Check out www.faresharesouthwest.org.uk for more info in the meantime.

Combe Hay Garden Food Group
This summer we have established an Excess Produce Point, where we can leave produce from our gardens which we do not need, for others to take and use. No money is involved. A huge variety of vegetables, fruit, and even eggs and flowers have been offered and appreciated.

Plant a nut tree - give a nut tree!
Date for your diaries!
With the grant from Trees for Cities and some generous individual sponsorships, we can now go ahead and plant up the first batch of nut trees to start the Smallcombe Community Nuttery.
Local residents from Widcombe and Bathwick, local school children and Transition Bath supporters are invited to come and help plant the first nut trees on Sunday, 13th February, from 10.30 am onwards.
We’ll have cobs, almonds and sweet chestnuts, and possibly the French walnuts will have arrived by then too.
The National Trust warden is creating a ‘social area’ at the top of the site, and we hope to have a bonfire to bake potatoes, etc.
What do you give to the eco-conscious friend or relative, or to the person who ‘has everything’? A nut tree! If you’d like to sponsor a nut tree for the Smallcombe site, click here for details.
Latest on guerrilla gardening
On 7th November, we celebrated the first anniversary of the Park Street site, our first guerrilla gardening initiative, with baked potatoes and cake (and some weeding). Local families have nurtured the site during the year, planting fruit bushes, vegetables and herbs, and two donated apple trees.
Students from King Edwards school are now also keen to guerrilla garden, and have their sights set on two sites near Green Park station. Lyn Barham and Jamie Colston are helping them with advice.
There is also a potential site close to Victoria Park. If you’re interested in getting involved, contact Lyn Barham on lynbarham@btinternet.com.

Apple Juicing and bottling
We held four workshops this year training 25 people to use equipment. As a result around 12 people hired the equipment including a couple of schools. We will hold further workshops next year so that even more people can deal with their glut of apples. www.transitionbath.org/events
Support the Dry Arch Growers
Give a Transition Gift this Christmas and support Bathampton's local Community Supported Agriculture project called Dry Arch Growers. In January 2011, the idea that started on a summer's day in August this year will become a cooperative IPS and launch its business and growing plan for the next three years.
We are currently looking to raise £10,000 to re-install a water supply, keep pigs to clear the land, buy seeds, have facilities for storing tools/valuables, install two compost toilets as we will be having school children on site and essential get the project to the next stage of its development. We have £2,500 pledged already and a grant application in for a further £1,500. We will launching a local shop fundraising campaign shortly to allow people to donate £5, £10, £20 or more if they choose.
If you are interested in finding out more then please contact Jamie oncsa@transitionbath.org . If you want to donate then please send a cheque in the name of Transition Bath to Transition Bath, South Vaults, Green Park station, Bath, BA1 1JB. |
