University of Bath Nightline recently took home the Young Volunteer Team of the Year Award at the Bath and North East Somerset Community Awards 2018/19. Bath Nightline were nominated by an outstanding five people and ended up taking home the top prize, a fantastic achievement for all involved.
Nightline is a student-led SU Group that offers a confidential, non-judgemental, peer-to-peer listening service. Nightline are on hand from 20:00 to 08:00 during term time to talk about everything from managing your workload, to eating disorders, or depression, and can even just be a voice on the other end of the phone as you walk home at night.
“It is great that there is somewhere people can ring to just be listened to, without judgement or unwanted advice”, says a student who has used the service.
In the last two years, the group of incredible volunteers has accrued more than 2400 hours of listening. Alex Aranda, Co-Chair of Nightline says “I am very grateful that Bath Nightline has received this recognition from the local community. Every day of the semester anonymous volunteers give their time to support their peers, this award goes to every single one of these amazing people! This is a very demanding role that should be more supported by the University.”
Nightline is a fundamentally important service and the award is well deserved. A huge congratulation goes out to Nightline and all its volunteers.
