Staff members from The SU will take part in the Walk of Life this May to raise money for the Dementia Ward at the Royal United Hospital (RUH). A wonderful opportunity to celebrate the life and memory of loved ones, The SU team will walk 10 miles from Bradford-On-Avon to Bath.
Organised by The Forever Friends Appeal, the annual walk raises money for The RUH, including their Cancer Care Campaign, RNHRD & Therapy Centre or any other area of choice.
The SU team have chosen to support the Dementia Ward, after the volunteer department recently worked closely with the Alzheimer’s Society in recruiting students for their new Side by Side initiative at the RUH. With over 60 students signing up, The SU saw first-hand the incredible work that goes on at the Dementia Ward in supporting their patients. With family or friends of some SU team members suffering from the illness, the team are passionate about fundraising for this area of the RUH.
Inspired by the Side by Side initiative, The SU are also partnering with the Dementia Action Alliance in researching how The SU can become a dementia friendly organisation. The volunteering team are looking at delivering awareness sessions which will enable students and staff to become dementia champions to raise awareness on the subject.
Anna Boneham, Volunteer Manager says “The SU are always keen to show their support for the local community”.
“We get involved with several volunteer opportunities as part of National Volunteers Week in June and aim to recruit a staff team at least once a year to link with these kinds of challenges”.
The SU team are aiming to raise £1500 for the Dementia Ward at the RUH and would welcome any donation generously made. Visit their Just Giving page to find out more and donate.
