Acts of Kindness Blog Post

'No act of kindness no matter how small is ever wasted'

V Kind is a new project piloting as part of Student Volunteering Week aiming to encourage micro volunteering through Random Acts of Kindness. It is the perfect opportunity to get involved and give back to others. No matter how big or small, everyone’s contribution is important. A small act of kindness can make the difference between a good day and a bad day. While many individuals are eager to volunteer it is often difficult to find the time between studying, working and socialising. That’s where the V-Team’s V Kind Project steps in.

Throughout the week, a chalkboard located in the SU will be open to all to write down random acts of kindness carried out. Feel free to contribute or perhaps take inspiration from others’ acts. To get started, here’s V Kind’s 15 random acts of kindness you can do today:

1.     Smile at others – it is no secret smiles are contagious, a kind smile can really make someone’s day

2.     Listen – sometimes all a friend or family member may need is to know you are there, take 5 minutes to let them know you’re there to listen when they need it

3.     Remind someone that you are proud of them!

4.     Open doors for others

5.     Offer to give up your seat on a busy bus

6.     Ask someone about their day

7.     Say something positive about yourself – it is important to be kind to yourself as well as those around you

8.     Offer to pay for the person behind you

9.     Write encouraging notes and leave them in public spaces like across campus/in the library

10.  Leave some cash next to a vending machine

11.  Leave a book that you enjoy reading with a message inside it in a public space

12.  Give a stranger a compliment

13.  Let someone cut in front of you in line

14.  Prepare two snacks – one for yourself and one to give to someone else

       And finally,

15.  Be Kind to Yourself

There are an endless number of gestures that encompass Acts of Kindness, perhaps some of these things you do regularly. Take time this week to be aware of the things you do, give yourself credit and help others pass it on. Let us all come together to encourage universal acts of kindness each day.
