Ethical commerce (also known as charity shops!)
Bath has many charity shops, particualry on Moorland Road and in the city centre. They are full of bargains, which you can sometimes have first choice of, and of course a great opportunity to chat to the locals. They include: Oxfam, British Red Cross, Bath Cats and Dogs Home, Julian House and Save the Children.

Why volunteer?
CV BOOSTING
Volunteering gives you unique experiences and a chance to pick up soft skills, practical skills and extra knowledge that you can highlight to potential employers. Organisations love to hear what passions you pursue and what challenges you've faced that are different to those found at a placement year or internship.
WELLBEING
Volunteering is known to be good for you. Scientific studies have shown that helping others can contribute to our own happiness by experiencing more positive emotions and boosting our self-confidence. It can reduce stress and help us feel calmer too. Studies show that when we do kind things it can literally gives our brain a happiness boost.
There are many more charities and organisations who would be pleased of the help over summer and offer great opportunities to improve employability skills, socialise, or simply help others. See our Volunteering Opportunities webpage.
