What We Do
The University of Bath Water Polo Club, is more than just a sports club, here we play sport, have fun, develop our skills and make life long friends! The incredible facilities available to us on campus and the enthusiasm for teaching from our experienced players make us one of the best clubs in the South West.
We offer something for everyone! Competitive sport to fitness and social opportunities. All we ask is that you can swim confidently and are prepared to have fun! Even if you've never played water polo before, we'll teach you all the rules and skills you need to enjoy this incredible sport! Most of our members, including several BUCS players had never played water polo before coming to University.
We currently have two men's teams and a women's team who compete at BUCS as well as taking part in a friendly league with other teams in the South West. This gives our players the match time to perfect their skills and improve the team work needed for success.
Our two first teams represent the university in BUCS Premier South- the top level of university water polo, with the women's team winning Premier South last season! Our men's seconds team represents us in the BUCS Western Division 1.
We also have weekly land training sessions run by our strength and conditioning coach, offering a new element to our club!
We pride ourselvess on being open to everyone, from complete beginners to National League players!
If you don't want to take part in matches, but want to work on fitness and endurance and be a part of one of the most fun clubs at University, no problem! We encourage members that simply want to come along to training or to our socials.

Whilst we, your committee, will do everything we can to run the club as usual, the club may have to operate slightly differently to previous years in order to meet guidelines relating to Covid-19 and to keep our members safe. Despite this we will continue to offer:
- Land-based training both on and off campus
- Regular pool training sessions
- Opportunities to compete in BUCS fixtures in semester two with semester one acting as pre-season training
- Themed bi-weekly socials
We are committed to offering the best access to water polo possible in these exceptional circumstances, and we hope you will join us for what will be a unique yet exciting year as a member of water polo!
All important information and updates will be posted weekly on our Facebook page so don’t miss out and join here.
Reasons to Join Us
All members have the opportunities to play in many matches, whether in training, in our intramural league or in our competitive home and away fixtures.
Organised by our Social Sec, these fortnightly themed events are well attended and amazing fun, and who can forget the fancy dress! Themes in the past have included 'Wizard Staffs', 'Foxes Hounds and Hunters' and 'Rubiks Cube'. Even throughout lockdown, the club held virtual socials and Taskmaster themed challenges and will continue to offer similar opportunities to socialise.
We have an annual tour in Europe in places such as Spain, Croatia and Italy where we play water polo, party and soak in the sun on the beach!
Water polo is a team sport, that requires determination and discipline. It's a great opportunity to improve teamwork, communication and leadership skills which are all qualities that are attractive on a student's CV.
