Yesterday (20th Feb), I presented a paper asking for funding for a 3G pitch to a committee called C/S/SU (Council/Senate/Students' Union). This committee is chaired by the Vice-Chancellor, and its purpose is to accept or reject recommendations and then forward them onto other committees for official decision making. They are a kind of filter if that makes sense...
Anyway, so I presented the paper asking for full funding from the university for a full size 3G pitch. The reactions were quite negative at first, as there are many technical challenges: planning permission, flooding in the area, etc.
HOWEVER, after defending my point, the Vice-Chancellor agreed to commit to finding a solution to the technical issues. She wants to meet with myself and the Estates department in the next few weeks to find out exactly how we can make this happen!
This is huge news and we have now gone further than ever before, as we have the Vice Chancellor's official support :) We shouldn't get ahead of ourselves yet as it may not be feasible to get a 3G pitch on campus, but we will certainly try.
On the flip side, the planning for the training area has been put on hold as we will be considering both as one project...
This is a massive step forward and I couldn't have done it without the support of all students and staff around me!
