Summer Recap - Where has the time gone?!

Wow, where has this summer gone? How are we in September already? I am really enjoying receiving emails and messages from clubs and hearing all your ideas for the year ahead. There is so much to look forward to this year as we return to in-person activity. I am loving the role so much, so far and am really excited to welcome students back

Lead and Change

As an officer team we were fortunate enough to attend a week-long online conference lead by NUS (National Union of Students). It was a fantastic opportunity to network with other officers from different SU’s, learn more about the NUS and pick up tips and tricks for my officer year. Making these connections has given me some great ideas leading into the start of Semester 1.

Memberships

I have had so many messages about the membership structure this year. We will be charging a £30 SU (Students Union) Sport membership and an additional £10 for every club you would like to join, meaning it will be £40 for one sport, £50 for two sports, £60 for three sports, etc. Please go ahead and click here to have a read more about the membership structure for the 21/22 year.

Bath Active

We have a fantastic programme of free sport, here at the university, but are looking for our activators to run it. If you have a passion for getting people active, then please click here apply to become a Bath Activator.

Societies Gym Day

I have been working closely with Activities Officer, Zoe, and the sports department to create a day of group exercise sessions in Gym 2 for our groups and societies. We are really looking forward to showcase this soon. Keep your eyes peeled for a date and more information being released soon.

Club Culture Work

There is always work to do on club culture. Welcoming students back to in-person sport and social activities will always be exiting and involve lots of varying activities. We are aiming to make this experience as enjoyable as possible for all students. We are encouraging all sports clubs to complete the #bethechange training, provided by the University.

Inclusivity Champions

Ensuring club culture work continues, I am creating inclusivity champions, linked to the inclusivity award, these representatives will be able to plan sessions, events and just generally aim to improve inclusivity in sports clubs. I am working with Meg, the Community Officer, on the development of this and will be reaching out to committees very soon!

Sulis Club

Last week I met with the Director of Sport, Stephen Baddley, and Chief Operating Officer, Keith Zimmerman, to discuss the possibilities of what to do around the Sulis Club. We have another meeting coming up where we will be looking at the building itself. I am excited to share more about this project as it develops throughout the year.

Dartmouth Avenue

We have an exciting space in Oldfield Park where we are aiming to create a student hub. Part of this will be available for group bookings, other for sport bookings, and even space for a student chill out/living room space. We would like to know what you would like to see in this space as it currently a blank canvas with so much potential! It will be a working progress but we are hoping to open soon!

Sports Exec

Last week it was the first official exec meeting as Sports Officer! It was so amazing to meet the team so far and see how keen people are for the year ahead! We are all excited to see what the year brings, and the Exec are bursting with ideas! This year we will also be introducing a buddy scheme where clubs will be allocated an exec member who will be available to answer questions, as well as assist with club development where possible! We are still trying to fill the Sports Exec, so if you are interested in becoming a Treasurer, Performance Sport Officer, Recreational Coordinator, Volunteer Coordinator, Inclusivity Officer or Events Coordinator, then please get in touch.

Only a few weeks left until FW20 Take 2 and FW21. We are super excited to welcome students back, old and new! We have lots going on and many opportunities to get involved. The Officer team will be around throughout both weeks and willing to answer all manner of questions.

In the meantime, I am always happy to answer questions or ideas you may have around sport. I love hearing from students, and engaging where possible.
