A masterpiece of Elizabethan Renaissance architecture and design, with towering walls of glass, glowing ham stone and surrounding garden, this trip to the Montacute House National Trust property is not to be missed! Built in the late 1590s for Sir Edward Phelips, Montacute House is a glittering Elizabethan Renaissance masterpiece. Step inside the amazing building of stone and glass to discover more, including the rare and highly decorative 15th-century Tournai Tapestry.

Explore the compartmentalised gardens, the orangery, the Porters' lodges, courtyard cafe, gift shop, the second hand bookstore and lots more.

Montacute house has been used as a filming location for several programmes and films including Wolf Hall, Sense and Sensibility, The Libertine and loads more.

There are plenty of walks around this stunning estate that take you past Tudour parkland to St Michael's Tower, past the site of a medieval mill and plenty of scenic woodland, so make sure to have an explore.

 

 

Pick up Times:

- Depart East Campus Car Park at 9:00

- Depart Avon Street, City at 9:15

- Arrive at Montacute House around 10:30

 

 

Important information:

  • The times listed on the event are from when the coach will leave the campus in the morning, until an approximate arrival back to Bath. You will be asked to arrive 10 minutes prior to departure, for boarding, in order to ensure the coach leaves on time. Arrival times to the destination and back to Bath are subject to traffic, weather and road conditions, which are beyond our control, so we cannot guarantee exact time/s of arrival.
  • The trips will go ahead regardless of weather conditions, so please do come prepared. This excludes extreme or dangerous weather, where we would, of course, cancel for your safety. In the event that we cancel the trip, you would be fully refunded.
  • If you can no longer attend the trip, you may transfer your ticket to another student. Please ensure you inform us in writing to su-trips@bath.ac.uk at least 24 hours before departure time. Also, quite often we have a waiting list so we may be able to put you in contact with a student waiting for a ticket.

Photography and Filming: We have photographers and film makers at some of our events to capture footage to share online and for use in future promotional materials. If you don't want to be featured, please inform a member of the Community office: su-trips@bath.ac.uk
