About the Doctoral College
The Doctoral College supports and develops the community of doctoral researchers and drives forward the university’s doctoral strategy. It is made up of three main areas covering admissions, programme support, and development. This role will support this third area, and will form part of the Doctoral Development Team (DDT).
About the Role
This position is open to all students to apply (UG/PGT/PGR). Under the guidance of the Doctoral Training and Events officer, the role will involve carrying out tasks to support the implementation and ongoing maintenance of the Doctoral Development programme of workshops, events and resources. These are designed to enhance the skills and knowledge of doctoral researchers throughout their studies.
The role will run from: Week commencing 26 January – end of May 2026
Rate of Pay: CW 3 (currently £12.91 per hour plus holiday pay)

Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Shared inbox and calendar support
- The postholder will respond to routine queries in the Doctoral Development inbox, asking for help when needed.
- The postholder will be required to add events to the shared calendar and staff diaries as required.
- UniHub logistics (MyDoctoralDevelopment)
- The Doctoral Development programme of events, workshops and resources are hosted on UniHub (in ‘MyDoctoralDevelopment’). Under the guidance of the Doctoral Training and Events Officer, the postholder will:
- Set up workshops and events
- From the site, write and send out weekly bulletins
- From the site, send out any preparatory work beforehand or circulate any slides following workshops
- Workshop/ event coordination
- The postholders tasks include:
- Working with workshop facilitators to finalise dates and timings
- Updating and maintaining the workshop/event overview spreadsheet
- Printing materials such as registers for in person workshops/ events
Please note: The listed duties should give you a flavour of the type of activities you could get involved with but is not an exhaustive list.
Occasionally, you may be required to undertake other ad hoc duties outside of administrative support e.g., on-site event support.
Hours Of Work
This is a casual contract. There will normally be 6 hours of work per week. The role is in person (days/times to be agreed with the successful candidate) and the postholder will be allocated a laptop and a desk based in the Doctoral Development Team office (on campus).

Person Specification – What We Are Looking For
Essential
- Strong attention to detail
- Confident with Microsoft Office
- Excellent prioritisation and time management skills
- Ability to convey information clearly and effectively, verbally and in writing
Desirable
- UniHub experience e.g., setting up events, adding resources etc.
- Experience of representing a service and interacting with customers
Training and support
The appointed candidate will be provided with relevant training and ongoing support to enable them to carry out the role effectively.
