Following the closure of the National Nightline Association, The Bath Nightline Committee, The SU and University have completed a joint review of Bath Nightline. After careful consideration, a decision has been made to close the service, as it can no longer be safely or sustainably supported without the national infrastructure that previously underpinned it.
This decision was shaped by a dedicated review group that included Nightline volunteers, SU leaders, and University staff. Together, they explored the service’s impact, risks, and resource needs. The professionalism and passion shown by the Nightline Committee—especially in representing the voices of volunteers and service users—were central to the process and deeply appreciated, their voices were a huge part of this review.
While this marks the end of Bath Nightline, it also opens the door to new possibilities. We are committed to working with students to develop alternative peer support and volunteering opportunities that continue to build skills in listening, empathy, and wellbeing.
We want to hear from you. If you have ideas about what peer listening support should look like at Bath, or what kind of volunteering opportunities you’d like to see, we invite you to share your thoughts and help shape the future.
Please share your ideas with Benji, SU Community Officer by emailing sucommunity@bath.ac.uk.
The University are committed to provision of mental health and wellbeing support at Bath, including our work towards the University Mental Health Charter.
