Officer Statement - Supreme Court Ruling

Helen Webb

A statement from the SU Officers

The SU Officers would like to express our continued support and solidarity with the trans community following the recent Supreme Court ruling concerning the legal definition of “woman” under the Equality Act 2010. While the full implications of this decision are still unfolding, we are firmly opposed to it and are committed—fully and without exception—to supporting our trans community and standing alongside them during this time.

The SU Bath remains unchanging in its values and we aim to maintain constant high levels of inclusivity, respect, and equality for everyone.

We understand that this ruling may bring with it feelings of uncertainty, anxiety, or confusion. Please know that you are not alone, and that there is support available to you.

  • The University Student Support Service is available every working day at 4 West Student Centre, no appointment necessary, or by emailing studentsupport@bath.ac.uk
  • Our “Be Well - Talk Now” service provides free, confidential advice and support by phone, video call or live chat from anywhere in the world, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. From within the UK, please call 0808 196 8046. From outside the UK, please call +44 3 307771499, or visit our webpages for more information and the live chat link
  • Help is also available from The SU’s Advice and Support Centre
  • If you experience or see harassment please make sure to use the Support and Report tool

We want to make it absolutely transparent: any form of harassment or discrimination has no place in our community and will not be tolerated. To every member of the trans community—please take care of yourselves and surround yourself with your friends and family during these uncertain times.

To every member of the trans community - you are valid, and you are seen.

Love the SU Officers
