Leave your mark and boost your career!

Nominations to become an SU Officer are officially OPEN- you might have already caught a glimpse of the posts and emails leaving you wondering… what is an SU Officer and why should I apply? Please take a moment to have a read through the key benefits of being an SU Officer and why you should not just consider, but take the plunge and nominate yourself.

The SU Bath, is more than an organisation, it’s a vibrant community represented by six elected SU Officers (President, Sport, Activities, Community, Postgraduate and Education). They aren’t just figures, they are the voice of every student at Bath.

The SU is a registered charity separate from the University, led by students for students. SU Officers start their role at a uniquely high position, with opportunities to meet regularly with influential members of University staff such as the Vice Chancellor and the Pro-Vice-Chancellors, as well as key members of the local community. This is a truly unique opportunity to enter an establishment right at the top, that you wouldn’t get at any other organisation. Fear not, you won't be thrown into the deep end alone – extensive training and support will be given to you!

Having the role of SU Officer on your CV can hugely boost your career as you will gain an extensive range of different skills and experience, from refining your presentation and public speaking skills to mastering project and event management. Collaboration becomes second nature as you work closely with fellow SU Officers, SU staff members, and student leaders.

Even just applying to be an SU Officer looks great on your CV, as you’ll gain relevant experience in campaigning, organisational skills, and teamwork! It can be daunting putting yourself out there, but so many past candidates have valued the experience and it has given them the confidence to keep putting themselves forward in future situations. It will certainly help you stand out from the crowd whilst employers sieve through piles of CV’s!

Yet, being an SU Officer is more than self-development; it's about leaving a mark on the place that has sculpted years of your life. You can shape SU and university policies, redefine its workings, and leave a legacy that outlasts your time here- and maybe even forever! You’ll also get to support students to be the best they can possibly be, enabling them to become tomorrow’s future leaders, while simultaneously campaigning on national issues that affect not only Bath students but students across the country and Higher Education as a whole. The fulfillment and enrichment this can give you is something that is hard to find in other jobs, making a difference and leaving an impact is something pretty special and is to be highly valued.

Beyond the professional growth, one of the biggest things that past SU Officers have taken away from the role is everlasting memories and once-in-a-lifetime experiences. Having the chance to attend amazing events, experience every aspect of student life, and making connections with other SU Officers across the country has helped to build lifetime friendships and memories. Extend your student experience in a way only an SU Officer can!

And let’s not forget the perks - live rent free on campus, get free tickets to SCORE, Freshers’ Week Summer Ball, and more, as well as receiving a full-time salary during your time as an SU Officer!
